HELIDON XHIXHA: Renaissance of Towers

Venice | Florence | Berlin | Como | Milan

In June 2007 Xhixha presented the monument Renaissance of Towers at the Cornice International Art Fair in venice to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11. The six meter tall sculpture made in stainless steel and weighing approximately 3 tons has been exhibited in numerous cultural capitals including Florence and Berlin. Utilizing the imagery of the american flag, the work becomes a symbol of civilization whilst invoking contemporary ideas.

The monument rightfully takes it’s place within and along the History of Art so that every single day that fateful September Eleven be transfigured into a monument. As for the approach to the theme, Helidon Xhixha, working with compositional rigor, took inspiration from the Twin Towers and then, through the symbolism of the stars, incorporated in his work the testimony and value of National and territorial belonging to the flag of the United Staes of America.

A three meter high version of the monument Renaissance of Towers is permanently installed in the beautiful city of Stresa, right in front of the historical Hotel Grand Des IIes Borromées on the lake side promenade of Lake Maggiore, Italy.
